The Medical Fitness Association (MFA), a non-profit organization, was formed in 1991 to assist medically-integrated health and fitness centers achieve their full potential. Each year, MFA certified facilities are nominated and recognized for Medical Fitness Facility and Professional of the Year awards. Awards were presented during the 28th Annual International Conference Awards Ceremony in Orlando, Florida. These awards celebrate and honor the best and the brightest in medical fitness center management.
The Virtua William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness (WGR) has been a consistent leader in providing a wide range of medically integrated programs as well as general member programs. We have been certified with the MFA since 2007, having recertified for the 4th time in 2019 receiving a score of 100%. One of the comments from the examiners during the 2019 visit was that the team at WGR “loves what they do and it shows!”
WGR offers medically integrated programs ranging from aqua arthritis, osteoporosis, balance, Parkinson’s and pelvic health. We maintain consistent member utilization throughout the year, and have decreased our attrition from 41% (2015) to 30.4% (2018). In addition, we offer a variety of programs including personal training, yoga workshops, Gyrokinesis®, swim lessons, triathlon training/coaching, pickleball and ballroom dance lessons. We have a very active and collaborative Medical Advisory Committee that works with our team to create new programs.
Some examples of programming created through this collaboration include Virtua Fit (an exercise and nutrition program), Virtua Plant-Based (an exercise and nutrition program for plant-based eating), My Core (pelvic health exercises for women), PAD (peripheral artery disease exercise), and SABC (Strength After Breast Cancer). Our team also participates in community support activities such as ARC Blood drives, school supply drives, food drives, participates in charity walks, holiday gift giving for less fortunate families, and working at our local food pantry and soup kitchen.
Our leadership team has two MFA Rising Star Award winners, Lisa Kulnis (2016) and Kierstin Mitchell (2018)!
