Virtua William G. Rohrer Center for HealthFitness (WGR) is the proud 2nd place recipient of the 2019 MFA Program Innovation Award!
The Medical Fitness Association (MFA), a non-profit organization, was formed in 1991 to assist medically-integrated health and fitness centers achieve their full potential. Each year, MFA certified facilities are nominated and recognized for Medical Fitness Facility and Professional of the Year awards. Awards were presented during the 28th Annual International Conference Awards Ceremony in Orlando, Florida. These awards celebrate and honor the best and the brightest in medical fitness center management.
Small group training class Build Stronger Bones came in 2nd place for the Program Innovation Award. This class was created by the 2019 Rising Star recipient Rick Daiutolo when he noticed the need for a class that would target members that have osteoporosis. Class size is limited to five participants to ensure that each participant gets the required attention to perform the exercises correctly.
Since introducing the class last spring, it has grown from one class a week to 8 classes a week! The classes were able to grow exponentially because members attending wanted to meet more often. They wanted additional classes because they were seeing results and enjoy working with Rick as well as each other.
The Build Stronger Bones classes are helping us with member retention by helping a group of people that might typically be afraid to work out on their own feel confident with their exercise program and that’s helping them to attend the center regularly. The participants in the classes have built friendships and connections that carry on outside of class time as well. Build Stronger Bones is offered to members, but we also have non-members that participate as well.
