Exercise is proven to be as effective as medication and cognitive behavioral therapy when it comes to alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. They can also work hand in hand. Many people feel uncomfortable going to therapy but are comfortable working with a personal trainer or taking a group exercise class.
Principle of Specificity: Specific exercise types can be prescribed to alleviate specific symptoms (example: an anxious client suffers from muscle tension and may benefit from an extended stretch and flexibility program to help relax the muscles, such as yoga, and a person that is experiencing decrease in energy may benefit from a challenging cardiovascular program to help increase energy).
Evidence suggests that a supervised exercise program, or working out with a partner, is more effective than working out alone or at-home
